Nigerian Army SSC Recruitment: The Nigerian Army has announced the commencement of applications for the Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission Course 49/2026. This presents a unique opportunity for eligible Nigerians to serve their country in the Combat Arms and Combat Support Arms of the Army.

About the Short Service Combatant Commission

The SSC is open to both civilians and serving military personnel. It provides degree and HND holders an avenue to be commissioned as officers after successfully completing an intensive nine-month military training at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.

Successful candidates will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Nigerian Army.

Application Requirements for Nigerian Army SSC Recruitment

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a Nigerian citizen by birth.
• Must be of good character, attested by at least two referees (Local Government Chairman/Secretary or a senior military officer).
• Must be between 23 and 27 years of age by January 2026.
• Must be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
• Must not have been convicted by any court of law.
• Must measure at least 1.68m (male) or 1.65m (female) in height.
• Must possess a minimum of a first degree (Second Class Lower) or HND (Lower Credit) in any field of study from an accredited institution.
• Must possess an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
• Must possess a valid birth certificate or age declaration and a certificate of state of origin.
• Military personnel applying must have served a minimum of 5 years and be free from disciplinary cases.

Conditions of Service

• The Short Service Combatant Commission is granted for 15 years – 10 years on active list and renewable for 5 years.
• Successful officer cadets will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants.
• Conversion to Regular Commission is based on available vacancies and performance.
