About the PTDF Overseas Scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund is a Federal Government agency established to develop indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme was created to give Nigerian graduates access to world class education, research facilities, and global expertise. The scheme has been restructured to also strengthen local capacity development through partnerships with Nigerian institutions, particularly the PTDF College of Petroleum and Energy Studies Kaduna.

Structure of the PTDF Overseas Scholarship 2026

For the 2026 academic session, PTDF has introduced the following scholarship structure.

1. Fully Funded MSc Scholarships

MSc scholarships are available in the following countries:

  1. United Kingdom

  2. Germany

  3. France

  4. Malaysia

2. Fully Funded PhD Scholarships

PhD scholarships are available in the following countries:

  1. Germany

  2. France

  3. Malaysia

3. United Kingdom PhD Split Site Programme

PhD scholarships in the United Kingdom will only be offered under a split site arrangement. Successful candidates will carry out their research between the PTDF College of Petroleum and Energy Studies Kaduna and one of the following partner universities in the UK:

  1. Robert Gordon University

  2. University of Strathclyde

  3. University of Portsmouth

This structure is designed to strengthen local research capacity while maintaining international academic standards.

Courses Covered

  1. Only PTDF approved courses relevant to the oil and gas industry are eligible.

  2. Applications are restricted to programmes offered by PTDF partner universities.

Requirements for PTDF Scholarship 2026

A. MSc Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Possess a minimum of Second Class Upper 2.1 in the first degree, or Second Class Lower 2.2 with relevant industry experience.

  2. Have completed the National Youth Service Corps NYSC.

  3. Be computer literate.

  4. Possess five O Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

  5. Submit a statement of purpose of not more than 500 words explaining the reason for the proposed study, its relevance to the oil and gas industry, and its expected contribution to national development.

  6. Have a National Identity Number NIN that is fully verified.

B. PhD Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have completed the National Youth Service Corps NYSC.

  2. Be computer literate.

  3. Possess five O Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

  4. Hold at least a Second Class Lower 2.2 in the first degree and a good postgraduate degree.

  5. Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry, not more than five pages, covering the topic, background, objectives, methodology, and data collection approach.

  6. Have a verified National Identity Number NIN.

Additional requirement for academic staff:

  1. Lecturers must submit a letter from their Vice Chancellor confirming that they are not currently benefiting from any other scholarship.
